Robert Hunter Guinn Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1926 - 2016

Robert Hunter GuinnRobert Hunter Guinn, a resident of Silsbee, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2016, at the age of 89. He was born in Cushing, Texas, on December 21, 1926, to parents Minnie Maize Guinn and Milton Lynn Guinn. Bob graduated from Colmesneil High School, and then joined the Texas Company Refinery in 1947. After 36 years of service, Bob retired as Supervisor in the Shipping Department. Bob served in the Texas National Guard from 1952-1954 and was also 32nd Degree York Rite Master Mason.

Robert is survived by his wife, Janie Guinn of Silsbee; his sister Georgia Ruth Dubois of Jasper; two sons, Jimmy Guinn and wife Karen of Village Mills and Keith Guinn and wife Traci of Atlanta GA; grandchildren Rachel Guinn of Houston and Sara Longwell and husband Kyle of Tucker GA; and by stepchildren Leon Phillips, of Silsbee, Bill Phillips of Silsbee, Margie Parker and husband Tommy of Beach City, and Kirsten Phillips of Silsbee. Robert is survived by thirteen step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his canine best friend, Moose. Bob was also blessed with a wonderful family of nieces and nephews, who loved him as they would their father. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, brothers Herbert Guinn, Teed Guinn and Frankie Guinn and sister Mary Virginia Cheatham.

Bob did his best to truly demonstrate his Christian faith through his actions every day. He was a very strong, courageous man with a very soft heart. He enjoyed raising cows and planting a garden. He was also an avid marathon runner during his mid-life. Bob loved watching football, and although he didn’t touch a club until well into his 40’s, Bob developed a love for golf and played several very solid rounds into his 80’s. He loved 60’s Motown soul music and no matter where he was, he would not resist the temptation to jump up and do a dance when he heard music. Robert enjoyed being happy and feeling good and wanted everyone he loved to be happy and healthy, as well.

No words can fully describe this fine person that we will all miss so much, but we take comfort in knowing he is suffering no longer and has joined those before him, with his Heavenly father.

Funeral services for Mr. Guinn will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Silsbee with interment following in Rockland Cemetery, under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
