John David Backley, 90, of Proctorville, Ohio, born June 7, 1926 in Huntington, WV, passed away on Friday September 9, 2016 at home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Louise Scarberry Backley; parents John L. and Blanche Backley; sister Betty Marie Conner. He is survived by his children and grandchildren who loved and will miss him dearly, son Danny (Levonda) Backley of Patriot, Ohio, daughters Susan (Bill) Clark of Barboursville, WV, and Tammy Whitley of Proctorville, Ohio; grandchildren James (Angela) Backley, Penny Backley, Chad (Christina) Whitley, Jennifer (Nick) Cooper, Jeff (Amanda) Clark, and Katie Whitley; great grandchildren Donovan and Jackson Whitley, Hunter and Hannah Backley, Kassidy Whitley and soon to be Grant Cooper; special friends Tim Whitley, JoAnn Daniels and Jr. Bragg. John was a WWII US Navy veteran and a machinist by trade. He owned and operated Backley Machine Company for 30+ years. He loved working on player pianos, collecting pictures, and listening to old records. The family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation to Hospice of Huntington for all their help in our time of need. Visitation will be held Monday September 12, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio followed by a graveside service at the Backley Cemetery, Mudsoc, Ohio conducted by Rev.
