John Hall, Jr., 76, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 2:06 a.m. at the home where he grew up, after a long struggle with leukemia surrounded by his family and Hospice of Huntington, WV. John was born in Huntington, WV on November 11, 1939, son of the late John Altha Hall and Mabel Eagan Hall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Ethel Edwards. He was a 1958 graduate of Fairland High School where he earned the nickname “Tarzan” for his football accomplishments. He joined the Army in 1958, served 3 years, and was an electrician in the Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army in July of 1961. After he served in the Army for three years he then went to work for Carrier Air Conditioning for approximately 30 years. He later worked for Honeywell and eventually started his own business, Halls Mechanical Service in Philippi, WV. He is survived by his wife Gail Elizabeth Pierce Hall of 57 years, this December 18, 2016. They were married at the Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage, NY. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Gary and his wife Debbie, a son Dale and his wife Tracy; two daughters Sherry Hall Underwood and Julie Hall Yencer; and youngest son John Alan Hall; three grandchildren Zachary Dean Hall, 19, Kaitlyn Leigh Hall, 17 and Caroline Elizabeth Underwood, 16; his sister Emma Bryan, 95; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
