John was born October 20, 1981 in Huntington, WV to Sandra Adkins of Chesapeake, Ohio, with whom he resided and Brian Hassett of Missouri. In addition to his parents, left to cherish his memory are his son, Bradley Alexander “Alex” Adkins; brother Rusty Thornburg; sister Jody Thornburg; special nephews and niece Brennan Thornburg, Ryan Adkins and Mattilyn “Matti May” Adkins; grandmother Audrey Adkins; aunts Karen Nicholson, Debbie (Kyle) Gillen, Yvonne (Elvie) Maynard; uncles Bill (Tracey) Boyle, and Dion (Vonna) Boyle; great niece Bailee Thornburg; great nephew Brantlee Thornburg; “special dad” Angela (Jim) Barker and three daughters Britt (Mike) Barker, Kaylen (Heather) Payne, and Haylie; best friends John (Chrissy) Rollins and J.J.; special great aunt Tuggy Martin and cousins J.B. and Mary Jo Martin; as well as many cousins, extended family members and friends including Pastor Jerry (Donna) Galloway and his Church family at Rockwood Baptist Church. A big heartfelt thanks to his case manager Julie Killen, Hospice of Huntington and Cabell Huntington Hospital 4th floor MICU nurses, residents and his much loved Dr. Ralph Stevens. John, befriended most everyone he met and his bright blue eyes, wide smile, warm heart and his ability to love and forgive others unconditionally made everyone love him. I rejoice with you dear family that John is free from his wheelchair ! For it was never God's will for any of us to be bound to a chair. That why this promise was made in Isaiah 35:5,6. Yes the 'lame will leap like the dear'! And 'death will be no more'1 (Revelation 21:3-5) May these promises and this site (jw.org) comfort you.

I met John when he was a child and have known him all his life. He was so close to my son Brennan. He was all smiles and laughter when I saw him. He was a wonderful young man and and an inspiration to others. I loved him and he will be missed.
