Ruby Maxine Bowling Hensley, 92, of Catlettsburg, passed away in her home Sunday, Oct., 23, 2016, after an extended illness.
She was born April 3, 1924, in Boyd County, one of 13 children born to the late Midge (Blankenship) and Clyde Eugene Bowling. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Gordon Hensley; brothers Clyde Oliver Bowling, Jack Bowling, Hager Bowling and Carl Nelson Bowling; sisters Alma Marjorie Ramey, Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" O'Pell, Wilma Hampton and Opal Green.
Ruby was a faithful member of the England Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She held the record for being the oldest member of the Church. She was a retired teacher in the Boyd County School system. She was a member of the Boyd County Teachers Association and Kentucky Teachers Association. She was later inducted into the Boyd County Educators Hall Of Fame.
She is survived by her son, Garrett Edward Hensely (Willa) of Cannonsburg; brothers Elmer Bowling (Polly) of Rush and Darrell Bowling (Mary) of Catlettsburg; sisters Garnet Stapleton (Bill) of Ashland, and Lucy Jean Adkins of Tennessee. Mrs. Hensley leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
In the past five years she has been cared for by four wonderful caregivers, Carrie Cox, Connie Elliott, Kathy Johnson and Ada Taylor.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct., 26 2016, at England Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland.
