Leroy Penix, 67, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 16, 2017, at his mother’s residence, with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 29, 1949, in Ashland, a son of Shirley Ramey Price of Ashland and the late Curtis Penix. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joshua Lee Penix in 2000.

Leroy was a member of Catlettsburg United Methodist Church; Elks Lodge BPOE 350, and the Catlettsburg Amvets and V.F.W. He was a 1968 graduate of Catlettsburg High School, an avid fisherman and Mountaineer fan and was a loving son, father, and brother.

Leroy retired from Calgon after 32 years of service and served honorably in the United States Navy on the USS Enterprise during Vietnam.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two special daughters, Lexie Diann Penix (Jimmy) and Lacee Dawn Penix both of Ashland; sisters, Diann Waggoner of Ashland; Cheryl Terrell (Craig) of Indianapolis, IN; and Patricia Miller of Russell; brother, Curtis Penix, Jr. of Florida; fiancé, Sherry Blackburn of Catlettsburg and a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Noon Friday, January 20, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Pastor Charles Allen Officiating. Entombment will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Kenova Post 93.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
