Mary Sue Cole Dameron, of Huntington, WV passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Wyngate Senior Living Community, Barboursville, WV. Also known as Grandma Sue, Bonus Mom, and – to hundreds of happy second graders – Mrs. D., Mary Sue was 89 years old. She was born on January 28, 1928 in Russell, Kentucky, the daughter of Wallace R. and Frances Johnson Cole. Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Richard Cole of Lexington, Ky; and her best friend and “classroom partner in crime,” Marlene Wolfe as well as Marlene’s husband, Clark Wolfe. After graduation from Russell High School, Mary Sue received her degree in education from Marshall College, and then began her 43 year teaching career in a one-room school in Greenup County, Ky. Later, she taught in Russell City Schools and in Grandville, Michigan, and retired from Cabell County Schools, specifically, Pea Ridge Elementary School. Known to her pupils as “Mrs. D,” Mary Sue loved teaching and made learning a joy for all her students. She was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. She is survived by her cousins Frances, Jenny, Becky, Suzy, Linda and Tee of Fort Pierce, Florida, and those who loved her as only as family can, Katherine Wolfe, Matthew Wolfe, and Barbara Perry. At her request, there will be no services. Burial will be at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington, 1101 Sixth Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.
