Time For Memory

Kristy Lynn Douglas, 43, of South Point, Ohio, received her ultimate healing on Tuesday March 14, 2017 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, WV. Kristy was born January 9, 1974 in Huntington, WV. She is the daughter of Steven L. Douglas of Huntington, WV; sister of Kelly (Gary) Miller of Huntington, WV and Kimberly Workman of South Point, Ohio; and step sister of Vicki James of Warner Robinson, GA; who survive her. She is additionally survived by her four children whom she loved unconditionally Christopher Frederick Douglas of Huntington, WV, Steven Derrick Lee Douglas of Huntington, WV, Donnavan Edward Chase Douglas of Pritchard, WV and Viktoria Alaya Kellee Douglas of Pritchard, WV; her seven grandchildren Lyric, Ivalee, Zion, Justice, Daleon, Adrianne and Jarred; her nieces Alexandria Workman (James), Emily Workman (Kirk) and Lacy James (Lynn); her nephew Brogan Workman; her very special friends Crystal Ellis, Ashley Hammond, Kim Stover and Angela Midkiff-Agasto; and her favorite cousin Elicia Dunfee. She was preceded in death by her partner, friend and love of 23 years Fred Davis; her brother-in-law Tim Workman; her four grandparents George and Ethel Douglas, and Eva Bess and Louie Jameson. Kristy was a former employee of GC services and most recently McDonalds of South Point, Ohio. She took pride in her work and made many friends in the community by starting their day out with a smile and a cup of coffee. She was also a member of the Tri-State Worship Center and loved her Church family. Kristy was a once in lifetime person she never met a stranger who didn’t end up being one of her “very best friends”. She had an infectious spirit and a unique sense of humor, laughter both given and shared was her gift to the world. She never left you guessing about her thoughts or feelings. You always knew exactly where you stood with her. Kristy had many wonderful qualities; she was kind and generous, out-spoken and direct, she was a tad bit eccentric and full of wit and humor. But it was her frank honesty both with others and herself that truly set her apart. She had the courage and conviction to say what others wouldn’t or couldn’t and in such a way, good or bad, you left appreciating her words. She was a faithful friend to many throughout her life, not just in word but also in deed. Whatever she had she would find a way to share it. If it was hers it was as good as yours. She always saw the heart of a person and kept it her focus. She called the poor and homeless her friend in equal measure to the wealthy and privileged. Kristy has a heart for the broken in spirit. She ministered love to the homeless by collecting and delivering blankets and food. She attended Church services on the riverbanks and offered encouragement and compassion. She gave her clothes and shoes away when she saw another in need. If she had a dollar in hand she always found a way to bless others. She had a zeal for life and an unstoppable passion to enjoy every moment afforded her when she was diagnosed with a terminal cancer, that passion only grew stronger. She simply refused to allow cancer to stop her or steal a moment of living from her. Of all the things in her life that she loved by far it was her children. She was their forever friend, their great defender, their fierce protector and their light homeward. They were her heart and motivation to fight these past 17 months. As a sister she was the Best! The best friend, the best partner in crime, the best secret keeper, the best sparing partner, the best medicine for a broken heart, the best one to call in times of trouble, the best one to get in trouble, the best to protect, the best to forgive and the best to love and be loved by. Kristy’s life was not an easy one, choice and chance were equally to blame. Yet, she still loved life and others. She had the same story most of us have-born, raised, tried, messed up, tried again, messed up again……a cycle some never overcome except that she did. The details of her first 40 years are just the prelude to the best part of her life. The story she wanted the world to know and remember – her journey to a life of redemption and grace. The last three years, she said, were her “awake years”, the years that she finally lived the life God had always had for her. A life full of forgiveness and genuine love from others, a life that held possibility peace and hope not only for her but for all those she held dear to her heart. A life lived for Christ, full of purpose and in service to others. Although, she suffered from cancer she felt it was her purpose to show those who crossed her path that God is good. That He is real and even through great suffering and trials there is always the choice to smile and trust him fully in Him. She was a beautiful soul and so incredibly easy to love. She showed grace in the battle and mercy toward many. She touched lives with her open mind and giving spirit. She captured hearts with her beautiful smile and unconditional love. She gave every part of herself away to be used for God’s glory and now she walks, runs, skips, jumps and dances with the Lord. Kristy’s life will be celebrated 5 p.m. Saturday March 18, 2017 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Terry Wagner. Visitation will be held for family beginning at 3 p.m. and friends at 4 p.m. on Saturday the 18th at the funeral home. Kristy never drew a line between friends and family so please feel free to come anytime. At her request and in her honor please wear pink, if possible. Kristy’s life was deeply impacted by the love and exceptional care by the staff at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV.
