1928 - 2017

Lois Barney ButlerLois Barney Butler, 88, of Huntington, passed away on March 19, 2017 after a brief illness. Lois was born in Huntington, WV on Sept. 11, 1928 and was married to James H. Butler for almost 70 years before he preceded her in death. She was a retired Court Reporter for the Social Security Administration. She is survived by her son, James R. Butler, DDS, daughter-in-law, Lynn Morris Butler; grandchildren Eric Butler, Amy Butler Parsons (Matt), & Julie Butler Pyles (Ashley); and great-grandson, Asa James Pyles. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Butler, daughter-in-law, Kim Butler, and great-grandson, Kingston Parsons (infant). Lois was a wonderful mother who raised two men who are/were remarkably self-sufficient. (Actually three – including her husband.) She loved to travel and enjoyed camping across the country with the boys during their growing up years. She loved seeing the world with Jim from their motorhome after retirement, and cherished the memories of showing the world to the grandkids. She appreciated the help and attention of her neighbors and was frequently on the mind of long-time friends who worked hard to find her when she could no longer stay in her home. Lastly, while she wasn’t the story-teller that Grandpa was, she did have a vivid imagination. She used it to create beautiful paintings that we will enjoy for years to come. And more importantly, she used it to keep us all safe – by worrying. We hope you will join us for her Memorial Service and Interment at St. John’s Episcopal Church, officiated by the Rev. Lisa Graves, Thursday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m., and/or join the family for a reception/visitation – immediately following. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honor her with a donation, please consider either St. John’s Episcopal Church Huntington - Kitchen Fund, 3000 Washington Blvd., Huntington, WV 25705 or to the Butler Family Endowment Fund, Big Green Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 1360, Huntington, WV 25701. Wallace Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Sorry to hear of your loss of Lois Butler. She would have been a first cousin and her uncle would have been my father Ireland Scaggs. My brother and sister and I last saw Lois in 2005. She and Jim had graciously showed us around WV. Prayers to your family.
