1925 - 2017
William Harold Bailes, 92, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio on April 1, 2017. He was born in Nettie, WV on January 12, 1925 of the late Worth and Anna Rock Bailes, and grew up in Richwood, WV. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie Gillette Bailes; a sister and brother-in-law Oretha and Robert Taylor, sister-in-law Bertie Compton Bailes and daughter Trudy Ann Bailes. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where he served in positions of deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Song Leader, Choir member and BYF Leader. He was graduated from Richwood High School (WV) in 1943, and joined the Army. He was in the V-12 Program at William and Mary University for a year. He was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theatre during WWII. He entered Europe in December 1944 and was in active combat until the end of hostilities. He was graduated from Marshall University and was retired from the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to being a faithful member of the church he was a Gideon and visited those in incarceration. He loved working crossword puzzles, traveling to new places, learning new things, and the Cincinnati Reds. He touched many lives and enjoyed treasured friends. He is survived by daughter Willa Rose Bailes and son-in law John Michael Perdiue, Brothers and Sister-In-Laws Jerrell and Jean Bailes and Ray and Selma Bailes. He has many nieces and nephews who brought him great joy. The family would like to express their gratitude to the employees of the Ohio Veterans Home and Hospice of Hope in Georgetown, OH who treated him tenderly with dignity and respect. The family will receive friends at Beulah Baptist Church from 2 to 4 pm with service at 4 pm on April 8, 2017. Burial will follow at the Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, Proctorville, The Gideons International or Hospice of Hope in Georgetown, Ohio.
