Dennis Gattis ReevesDennis Gattis Reeves, 45, of Evadale, was born July 27, 1971 and passed away Tuesday May 23, 2017. Leaving to cherish his memories, his wife Tammy Kelley Reeves and sons Austin and Dylan of Evadale. Other survivors include parents Jimmy and Joyce Jones of Evadale; sister Leslie D’Lynn Ainsworth and husband Trey of Lufkin; brother Trent Jones and wife Stephanie of Silsbee; niece Laurel and nephews Preston and Peyton.

He was preceded in death by his father Johnny Reeves; grandparents Valarin and Geraldine Gattis, and Emory and Mary Reeves.

Reeves was a 1989 graduate of Evadale High School, a 1994 graduate of Lamar University and obtained his Master’s in Education from Lamar in 2008. He had been a juvenile probation officer in Jasper and taught Criminal Justice at Silsbee High School, earning state accolades for the program. Reeves coached at Hull Daisetta and Evadale before becoming an assistant principal at Vidor Junior High and Vidor High School. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Evadale and was currently attending Turning Point Church in Vidor.

Dennis had been the principal of Kirbyville High School for 3 years where he loved his faculty, staff, and students and was loved by them in return. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed camping with his wife and sons. Dennis loved watching his boys play football at KHS and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He loved restoring old tools and rescuing and refinishing driftwood.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday May 25, 2017 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday at First Baptist Church of Silsbee with burial at Knupple Cemetery following the service.

Pallbearers are Trent Jones, Trey Ainsworth, Mike Rawls, Mark Williams, Jeff Matthews, and Darrell Barbay.

As I read the article on the internet, my heart broke for this man and his family and since I have just unexpectedly lost my Dad this month too thought I'd post my sincere condolences here, as those posted to my Dad's obit site have been a comfort to me. Even though we've never met, my thoughts and prayers go out to this family and may God bless them all.

Just want to say me and my family are sorry for your loss. He was an amazing principle that we at Vidor high school loved so much! We pray as you and the family grieve and hope to find peace.
