Garry Keith SmithGarry Keith Smith was born on December 4, 1944 in Hereford, Texas to Orville Alfred Smith and Jewel Skaggs Smith. He attended Hereford public schools through his graduation in 1964. Garry excelled in baseball and attended Sayre Junior College on an athletic scholarship. He married Margaret Lindeman on February 10, 1967 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hereford. Garry resided in Dawn, Texas and worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Hereford and Amarillo. The family moved to Silsbee in 1983 where he was employed by Temple Eastex until his retirement in 2007. While living in Silsbee,

Garry completed his Associate of Applied Science in Supervision at Lamar University in 1994. He was a member of Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus and a volunteer driver for the Christian Care Center.

Garry cherished time spent with family. His hobbies were hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents and sister June Owens.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret of Silsbee; son Keith Smith and wife Lisa of Leander Texas; twin daughters Kim Richard and husband Carl of Lumberton, Texas and Kelley Smith and husband Doug of Sealy, Texas; sister Karan Garrett and husband Dean of Altus, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Eldon Owens of Hereford, Texas, and nine grandchildren: Alex, Zachary and Catherine Smith, Andrew and Amanda Potts, Holly Richard, Matthew, Gregory and Nicholas Smith, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and uncle Bryan Skaggs and wife Carla.

Visitation will be at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, Texas on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 pm with Rosary starting at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Silsbee, Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Quail, Texas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark’s Capital Campaign, 905 N 9th, Silsbee, TX 77656 or the Christian Care Center, PO Box 2050, Silsbee, TX 77656.

To all you kids and Margaret, It is with my sincerest feelings that I send you my condolences. I sure loved listening to him talk and tell his stories. So sorry to hear about Garry. Know we are thinking of you and you are in our prayers. We have special memories of Garry and his humor that kept us laughing. He and Jim Bob cans laugh together now. Wish some of us could be there but I can't see to drive, Greg is in SaltLake City, and Jon is on his way to Los Angeles for 10 day tour. Blessings????

Garry is going to be sorely missed at our family reunions. He always entertained us with his many memories growing up and we enjoyed hearing them. Margaret, you and your family are in our prayers. We love you guys.

My sincere sympathies go out to Margaret and her family at this time. Gary demonstrated throughout his life what it took to be a great husband, father, and friend to so many others.We are all better people in our own lives due to the relationship throughout the years knowing Gary . Garry was also one of the founding fathers of the local chapter of The National Wild Turkey Federation. He served on the Board of Directors for many years. His contributions to the federation were many along with his wife, Margaret. Garry will be truly missed. From all of us at The Big Thicket Chapter--Rest in Peace Garry.
