Garrett Dale Smith “Gary”, 85, of Huntington, WV, died July 23, 2017, at home. He was born October 4, 1931, in Huntington, WV, son of the late Watson Smith and Deby Florence Joplin Smith. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Lynn Parsons, his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Ed Arrington, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willard and Emma Perry. He is survived by his wife, Viola Perry Smith; two sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph Dale Smith, and Jason and Leslie Smith; two grandsons he raised, Aaron Dale Glidewell, Matthew Parsons; granddaughter, Samantha Fife; two great grandsons, Benjamin Parsons, and Conner Parsons; two special step grandchildren, Austin Webb and Gracie Webb; niece, Martha Martin; nephew, Teddy Arrington; brother-in-law, Calvin Perry (Avenell); sisters-in-law, Lula Belle Porter, and Wilma Jean Fonda. He was a 1950 graduate of Huntington East High School. He was a Navy Reserve Veteran and Air Force Veteran where he served in Korea during the Korean War. He retired from Lesage Foodland. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with the Rev. Calvin Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery.
