OBITUARY FOR CHARLES E. DORSEY

Charles Edward Dorsey, Sr. departed this life and entered his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. He was born on June 14, 2017, in Natchez, Mississippi, Adams County to the late Williebelle "Belle" Tanner and Warren Dorsey. Raised by his beloved aunt, the late Lily Tanner, he was educated in the Catholic school system. His greatest achievement was twenty-two years of service in the United States Navy, where he earned three good conduct medals. Mr. Dorsey also had the privilege of serving as a security officer at the National Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. until his retirement in 1999. Charles had a passion for the word of God, and faithfully attended worship services as long as he was able. He was a charter member at Calvary Evangenical Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA, under the leadership of Rev. Cleophus Nixon. His favorite scripture was Galatians 2:20: "I am crucified with Christ: never the less I live yet not I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." (KJV) In addition to his parents and aunt, he was preceded in death by his brothers Dawson Barze and Preston Barze Jr, a great grandson Carter James Silver, and best friend and mentor Brother James Earl Brown.Left to honor his memory are his wife of thirty-five years Ella A. Dorsey, a sister Carolyn Tanner of Pontiac, Michigan and nine children: Charles Dorsey Jr. (Elsie), Camala Dorsey, and Carol Dorsey (mother, the late Martha Burfect-Dorsey). Sabrina Watson (mother, Beverly Blount). Valerie Garrett-Reyes (Teo), Melanie Garrett (Don), Racheal Dorsey, and Laura Dorsey (Brian), eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service to be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV with burial will follow.
