Walter Eugene “Gene” Bennett
Wheelersburg-Walter Eugene “Gene” Bennett, 89, of Wheelersburg passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Best Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg. Gene was born July 29, 1928 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Roscoe and Murtle Conn Bennett. Gene was an Insurance Broker with Riffe & Bennett Insurance, he was associated with the Cincinnati Reds for over 60 years and was active in many local community organizations. Gene was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Maxine Jones Bennett whom he married September 7, 1948 in West Portsmouth. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Arthur Bennett; a sister, Bertha Conley and a grandson, Matthew Wright. He is survived by a son, David (Cheryl) Bennett, a daughter, Cathy (Dwight) Jennings; four grandchildren, Erik, Kristie, Tyler and Catlin and seven great grandchildren, Lily, Brady, Brodie, Mati, Colton, Jordan and Lexi.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, August 21, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church on Ohio River Road, in Wheelersburg, Ohio, with Pastor Al Oliver officiating and interment to follow in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 pm Sunday, August 20, 2017 and 10:00 am-12:00 noon Monday, August 21, 2017 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Best Care Rehabilitation for the care they gave their dad.
