John Norman ChildersJohn Norman Childers, 93, of Proctorville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at home. He was born April 13, 1924 in Proctorville, Ohio to the late Ernest and Lucy May Gooch Childers. John retired from Columbia Gas of WV where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church Proctorville. John was a Private First Class WWII Army Veteran where he served in Company M 326th Glider Infantry Regiment 13th Airborne Division and the 82nd airborne. He also was a recipient of the bronze star. He graduated from Proctorville High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Lloyd Childers and a sister Frances Whitley. John is survived by his wife of 70 years, Opal Ayers Childers; he was the best dad to two children Linda (Larry) Sites and Karen Childers; four loving grandchildren, who were so helpful to their grandparents: Aimee Sites (Jason) Nance, Larry (Ginger) Sites, John Sites, Megan Sites (Chris Mueller); and one great granddaughter Ella Sites. Funeral Service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday September 18, 2017 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Duane Smith. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be held 11am to 1pm Monday, September 18, 2017 at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com or www.timeformemory.com/hall.
