Richard C. Damron, 88, of Ashland, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017, at King's Daughters Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was born June 16, 1929, in Ashland, KY, a son of the late Bryant C. and Gypsy Kahne Damron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald S. "Jerry" Damron; and two sisters, Delores Elizabeth Damron and Patricia Ann Damron.

Richard was a graduate of Ashland High School. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was retired from Armco Steel where he worked for 27 years. He was also part owner in the original Army Navy Store.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol Ann Orr Damron of Ashland; sons, Richard A. (Lisa) Damron of Ashland, and David (Silesia) Damron of Catlettsburg; daughter Leslie (Jimmy) McSorley of Catlettsburg; sister Linda (Tom) Stephens of Russell; sister-in-law Susan Damron of Ashland; six grandchildren, Kayla McSorley, Allison Pettrey, Lauren Bonner, Terri Barker, Michelle Russell, Samantha Key and Ashley Key; nine great-grandchildren, including David Andrew Evans whom he helped raise.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Jim Forrest officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and American Legion Kenova Post 93.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.
