1937 - 2017
After a yearlong and spiritual battle with cancer, T. Joyce Fry Roland, 80, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, GA where she was visiting family. Joyce was born in 1937 to Paul and Marie Fry of Chesapeake, Ohio where she spent her childhood. Always of keen wit and high spirits, Joyce moved to California where she earned a B.S. degree at University of California San Francisco and a teaching certificate at University of California Berkley. But, other interests called and Joyce and her husband Harold became wine brokers in the San Francisco, CA Bay area for a number of years. After Harold’s death, Joyce relocated to Jacksonville, FL where she became deeply involved in elder affairs and activities throughout Jacksonville. She served as vice chair for the state advisory board for Senior Citizens as well as vice chair for City of Jacksonville Elder Affairs. As a constant board member and advocate for senior needs, she was instrumental in developing a bus transit system for elders. She coordinated efforts for meals on wheels and found funding for senior citizens to support daily activities. Joyce is survived by brothers and sisters Elizabeth “Betty” McCollister of Jacksonville, FL, Jack Fry of Chesapeake, Ohio, Mack Fry of Huntington, WV and Veronica Floyd of Proctorville, Ohio. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two siblings Phyllis Steele and Rev. Paul Earl Fry. Private family services will be held.
