Pauline Cox Ferguson, 95, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Morgan County, a daughter of the late Henry Roscoe and Nola Conley Cox.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John William "J.W." Ferguson; daughter, Virginia J. Cyrus; son, Larry D. Ferguson; grandson, John Russell Ferguson; and a brother, Arlie Cox.
Pauline was a faithful and active member of International Pentecostal Church of Christ Organization, where she was an ordained minister since 1948 (69 years). She was the long-time matriarch of the Tri-State District assisting her husband with pastoring churches and with his position as District Overseer throughout their tenure in the Pentecostal Church of Christ. She held positions as District Ladies President, District and Local Church Youth Leader, Vacation Bible School Director and Secretary/Treasurer of the Mountain and Tri-State Districts. She was a magnificent and knowledgeable teacher of the Bible and was actively teaching an Adult Sunday School class at the age of 94. She was a great example of loyalty, dedication and commitment to the Organization.
She was an insightful business woman and owned and managed several businesses including an Avon business, a Cannonsburg grocery store and a laundry mat in Catlettsburg.
She is survived by her sons, Chandis (Joy) Ferguson of Ashland and John R. "J.R." Ferguson of Grayson; daughters, Lucille (Harold) Hardeman of Ashland, Christine (Wayne) Blanton of Rush and Beverly Ritchey of Ashland; close friend, Robin R. Ferguson; grandchildren, Stephen Cyrus, David Cyrus, Chandis Ferguson, Susan Ferguson Wellman, Scott Hardeman, Ken Blanton, Kevin Blanton, Malisha Payne and Jonathan Ferguson; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Dean Kuhn and Erwin Hargrave officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
