1947 - 2017
Harvey Alvin Unger passed peacefully on November 4, 2017 at the age of 70. Harvey is survived by his wife, Suna (Kim) Unger; his children Jennifer Unger Howlett and her husband John, Elizabeth Kent Unger, and step-son Min Ho Kim. He was the beloved grandfather of Asaya Saraphina Kim, Madison Grace Unger, Makenzie Marie and Jameson John Howlett. He is also survived by his brother Dan Unger and wife Anna, and sister Sherry O’Brien. Harvey was born to his late parents Alvin and Mary (Kent) Unger in Rochester, NY. He was an Eagle Scout, served in the United States Air Force and received his B.S. degree from Syracuse University. Harvey worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, first as a financial analyst and later as comptroller. He was stationed in a number of districts, including Jacksonville, FL, Savannah GA, Fort Belvoir, VA, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. His last district position was with the Huntington, WV District where he called home for the next 32 years. Harvey was a very genuine and devoted husband, father, and grandfather as well as a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed his “executive workouts” at the local South Side YMCA, bowling, and spending time with his family and dogs Teddy and Fluffy. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. There will be a celebration of life service at a later date. The family asks that you send your condolences to Suna Unger Rt. 2 Box 550 Salt Rock, WV 25559. Memorial gifts may be made to the Huntington YMCA, The Prestera Center or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Harvey was a great Husband, Farther and Uncle to me. Harvey was always passionate about family and bringing people together. If you were fortunate enough to be in his presence, you would know how he instantly made you feel welcome. Harvey had an infectious laugh, which will be deeply missed. I will always remember the family gatherings we had together. My prays are with his many loved ones. Love, Chris.
