William Carter, Jr., 93, of Huntington, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 8, 2018. He was born on June 12, 1924 in Harvey, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents Martha Sherman Carter and William Carter; sons William Carter, III and Dirk Shaun Carter; brother Corburn Carter; and sister Beatrice Nellons. William retired after 35 years from the Standard Ultamarines now called BASF as an electrician. He was a World War II Veteran where he was part of different conveys in England, France Belgium and Germany. He also delivered necessary supplies to the front lines. He attended Barnett Elementary and Douglass High School. He loved to roller skate, build model airplanes, take pictures and golf. Family and friends loved to drop by for his famous pancakes. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was the ambassador of his assisted living residence where he loved to greet people. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, his bride Gladys Carter of 70 years; daughter April Carter Dawson of Canal Winchester, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Huntington, WV with Pastor Donte Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
