James Robert Walker, 88, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1929 in Mahan, WV, a son of the late Raymond and Cecile Vandall Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Ray Walker in 2017.

Jim was a graduate of Kingston High School in Kingston, WV. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired after thirty years of service from Owens Illinois in Bridgeton, NJ, where he was Lead shift foreman and installed and repaired electronic equipment. After Owens, he was employed for twenty-five years with G4S in Ashland, KY.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Jo Spencer Walker of Flatwoods, KY; daughter, Vickie Lynn Walker of Waldorf, MD; grandson, Shane James Walker of Flatwoods; sister, Betty Schoolcraft of East Bank, WV; and brothers, John Walker (Dorothy) of Ashland, and Thomas Walker (Mary) of Mountain Home, AR.

“The greatest gift I ever had. Came from God. I call him dad.”

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with words of comfort by the Rev. Jim Pridemore. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens where military services will be provided by the U.S. Army and American Legion Kenova Post 93.

Visitation will be from Noon until 1p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the National Leukemia Foundation.
