Charles G. Forth Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1940 - 2018

Charles G. ForthCharles G. Forth, January 11, 1940 – April 25, 2018, passed away peacefully Wednesday at St. Mary’s Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Charles, Charlie to most, was born in Mason County, graduated from Hannan High where he routinely missed 50 days of school a year to help on the family farm. Despite this, he still managed to graduate with a “B” average. After high school, he moved to Huntington in 1959. He worked at B & B Food Market for John Beckwith until 1967, where he gained valuable experience that would serve him well, when he purchased his first store in Barboursville, Tower Grocery. In order to make this purchase, previous owners, Ronald and Eleanor Perry, took a chance on a 27 year old young man and helped finance the venture. Through Charlie’s hard work, dedication, and intellect, his businesses grew to include several stores and a distribution center to supply his stores and several others around the tri-state area. In the late 70s, Charlie’s son joined him in the grocery business and today his grandchildren are learning and striving to continue his vision and legacy. This year we celebrate Charles’s 51 years as a local merchant and community leader. Through the years, Charlie helped organize and start two different banks, one in Barboursville, WV, and one in Ironton, Ohio. Charlie never forgot the help and encouragement afforded him in the early days. Through the years, he gave council and encouragement to many who were considered starting their own businesses. He was always willing to listen and lend a helping hand to employees and friends in need. Charles will be greatly missed by his family: Brother-Eugene and Jane Forth; Sisters-Margaret and Billie Forth; Son-Tim and Connie Frazier Forth; Grandchildren-Chad and Michelle Banks Forth; Matthew and Stephanie Forth Chapman; Great-grand Children, Emma, Claire, David and Henry; numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his parents, Hugh Johnson Forth and Mary Lillian Holley Forth; his wife, Phyllis Jean Stowers Forth; a son Todd Allen Forth; a sister Nellie Forth Preston; and a niece, Laura Forth Malone. Special thanks to Penny Amos and team for their valuable help through Charles’s illness. Also, a special thank you to the staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center Oncology Unit and Dr. Shawn Coffman. The family is forever grateful. First visitation will be Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Second visitation will be Sunday 1-3 p.m. with the funeral to follow. Visitation and funeral will be at Pea Ridge Baptist Church, 5945 E. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington 25705. Officiants will be Pastor Dan Londeree and Rev. Greg Creasy. Wallace Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Ridgeview Community Church is offering additional parking. A shuttle will be available to transport friends and family to PRBC. In lieu of flowers donations for the Huntington City Mission’s Community Feeding Program can be sent to and made payable to Pea Ridge Baptist Church at the address listed above. I want to express my sympathy in the passing of Charlie Forth. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and always had a quick, warm smile. David Groves
