Nancy Slaughter, 89, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at home. She was born January 22, 1929 in Charleston, WV daughter of the late Homer and Lillian Ranson Williams. She graduated from Dunbar High School and from West Virginia University with a B.A. in Music Education and a M.A. in Music. Nancy’s life was focused around music, the Methodist Church, family and friends. She taught music at Masontown, Morgantown and St. Albans high schools and was a music consultant to the Kanawha County Board of Education. She was very active in the Methodist conference, on many committees and twice a delegate to the national conference, and directed the Conference Choir for several years. She also served as the choral director at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for 29 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herman F. Slaughter. She is survived by one son Mark F. (Nita) Slaughter of New York, NY and London, UK; one daughter Marsha S. (Curtis) Anderson, M.D. of Chesapeake, Ohio; four grandchildren Alexander C.F. Slaughter, William J.F. Slaughter, Brooke L. Anderson and Whitney Blake Anderson. Always dedicated to the advancement of science and specifically medicine, Nancy has donated her body to research and education at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held 4 p.m. June 16, 2018 at First United Methodist Church 1124 5th Avenue Huntington, WV 25701. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or any animal rescue of your choice.
