Clarence Melvin Breen (Poppy) of Athalia, Ohio passed away in Huntington, WV May 24, 2018, at the age of 85. He is preceded in death by his mother Edith (Breen) McNeese, his brothers Joseph and George LaChance and granddaughter Katherine Breen. He is survived by his sister, Eve Dessormeau, his daughters Cathy (John) Brown, Connie McKenley, Claire (Fred) Harris, Carol (Sterling) Barry, Cindy Rios, Cheryl Montalvo; his sons Roger (Denise) Breen, Shawn (Michelle) Breen and Michael (Kelly) Breen; along with 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Clarence was born in Skowhegan, Maine on March 12, 1933. He spent his childhood in Maine, New Jersey and New York. He enlisted in the Army in 1951, serving in Korea during the Korean War and remaining in the Army until 1962. After his military career, Poppy worked in the convenience store business for 30 years in area and district store managers positions as well as owning a couple of his own businesses during the 1990’s. In 1980 he relocated with the family back to his home of Maine.He was an active member of the community throughout his life. In the 1980’s he was a scoutmaster in Bar Mills, ME. Clarence was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Masons. He loved camping, fishing and bowling and served as a coach during his time in the Army and on several other occasions. He was a deacon in his church in Maine and loved spending time with his family. After retirement Clarence traveled to Kentucky, Arizona, and Florida and finally Ohio. During retirement Poppy was very active he enjoyed Flea marketing and spent many hours going and sitting with his friends. He also loved being around family. His last days were filled with joy and laughter and spent surrounded by his family and friends. At his request, there will be no formal services. Burial will be in South Buxton Cemetery in Buxton, ME at a later date.
