James Gregory “Greg” Hern, 55 of Ironton, Ohio passed away Wednesday July 11, 2018 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV. He was preceded in death by his mother Nella Rose Hern and father James Franklin Hern; grandparents Floyd Vallance Sr. and Ruthie Eloise Savary Barber, William Henry Hern and Lucy Howard Hern. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Hern; sons Matthew Hern of Grayson, KY, Derek (Ashleigh McHenry) Hern of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Shawn Gregory Hern of Ironton, Ohio; daughters Shanna (Zach) Adkins of Pedro, Ohio, Sierra Desiree Hern of Ironton, Ohio; four sisters Lyla (Bobby) Campbell of Land O’Lakes, FL, Rhonda (Robert) Taylor of Mount Airy, NC, Tammy (Randy) Hall of Hudson, FL, and Shara (John) Rubio of King, NC; brother Brian David Hern of Ironton, Ohio; two granddaughters which he adored Serenity Hern and Myleigh Hern; and two grandsons Zachary Adkins II and Tyron Hern. Greg was an amazing man, husband and father who loved his family. Greg always had a special place in his heart for children. He loved riding motorcycles, was a master carpenter and loved disco music. He attended Ironton Schools. He will be deeply missed by many. A memorial service will be held 4 to 5 p.m. on Saturday July 28, 2018 at Ironton Community of Christ Church, 308 North Ellison Street, Ironton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, for his love of children, make contributions to The Ronald McDonald House, 1500 17th Street, Huntington, WV 25701.
