Richard Austin Townsend, 79, of Scottown, Ohio passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at home. He was born July 12, 1939 in Kitts Hill, Ohio son of the late Frank and Zara Fullen Townsend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Jim and Bob Townsend; and two sisters Irene Allen and Dorothy Webb. He was a Deacon at New Zion Church and retired from A.K. Steel. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Townsend; two daughters Pollyanna Simpson (Brian) of Willow Wood, Ohio and Jackie Christian of Scottown, Ohio; one son Rick Townsend (Robin) of Willow Wood, Ohio; five grandchildren Jeremy Simpson (Crystal), Angell Bowman (Buddy), Nathan Christian, Ryan Townsend (Beth) and Rachel Pauley (Lewis); twelve great grandchildren; one brother Danny Townsend (Charlett) of Chesapeake, Ohio; four sisters Laura Triplett (Bill) of Coal Grove, Ohio, Margie Rice of Willow Wood, Ohio, Gladys Moore of Springfield, Ohio and Darlene Jeffers of Chesapeake, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with Pastor Darrell Fowler and Pastor Jeremy Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Wilgus Fairview Cemetery, Wilgus, Ohio. Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
