Samantha “Sammie” Jo Sorrell, 31, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

She was born June 20, 1987, in Ashland, KY, a daughter of Cheryl Hall Blankenship of Ashland and the late Ronald D. Sorrell.

Sammie was a 2005 graduate of Boyd County High School. She graduated from Lindsey Wilson College with a Bachelor’s in Arts and a Master’s in Education. She was an active member of Life Song Church, where she participated in the Women’s Bible Study, Food Pantry and traveled to Ecuador on a mission trip. Sammie was currently working for Kentucky Process Service. She volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., and will long be remembered for her kind, gentle spirit and willingness to help anyone in need.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother and step father, Cheryl Blankenship and Randy of Ashland; step mother, Barbara Sorrell of Ashland; sister, Sara (James) Rollins of Flatwoods; step sisters, Kaci Giberson, Amanda (James) Fryer, Heather Crain and Beth (Robert) Miller; Nephews, Noah, Cody and Jacob; nieces, Kali and Hannah; and a host of loving extended family members and dear friends.

A celebration of Sammie’s life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with words of comfort provided by Pastor Keith Menshouse. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
