Helen Schmalstig, 91, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of South Point, Ohio, passed away Monday August 19, 2019 at Beacon Place, Greensboro, NC. She was born September 2, 1927 in Holden, WV to the late Martin and Etta Spaulding Daniels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands James Edward McGirr and Paul Schmalstig; 10 siblings Henry, Arvis, Ervin, Earl, Loretta, Jarvis, David, Clyde, Hazel, and Jerry Daniels; and son-in-law Richard T. Cope. She is survived by her daughter Rhaieta Cope; son Michael McGirr; three grandchildren Kelli (Torin)Whittaker, Andrea Cope, and Brett (Kelly) Cope; three great-grandchildren, whom she adored, Riley Whittaker, Maggie Whittaker, and Easton Cope; two brothers Cecil (Mary) Daniels and Howard Daniels; and sister-in-law Judith Daniels. Helen was a beautician and she also worked for GM Motors in Dayton, Ohio. She loved bowling and crocheting. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday August 22, 2019 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio.
