Larry Keith O’Dell, Sr., 72, of Chesapeake, Ohio, formerly from St. Albans, West Virginia, passed into the presence of Christ while surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy and devastating descent into Lewy Body Dementia. Larry was born in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Richard Nolan O’Dell and Vera Waldorf O’Dell on June 10, 1947. He was a graduate of South Charleston High School and West Virginia University. After working as an assistant store manager for Montgomery Ward and as a men’s clothing buyer for Frankenbergers, he pursued a course of study at the Graduate Realtor Institute to develop a foundation of knowledge and skills for his employment with Old Colony Realty Company where he served in several different positions culminating as a mortgage broker and manager of the company’s Mortgage Net. Foremost in his life was his relationship with Christ through which he examined and determined all of life’s choices, found strength to endure and overcome life’s challenges, and celebrate God’s gifts of grace, mercy, and joy. As a former member of Riverlawn Presbyterian Church in St. Albans, he served as deacon, elder, clerk of session, and small group facilitator. Until his passing, he was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Ohio. Second only to his devotion to God was his selfless, sacrificial love for his family that includes his wife of 50 years, Beverly Meadows O’Dell; his children and their spouses, Wendy (Stephen) Manns, Laura (David) Moir, and Keith (Jennifer) O’Dell. Larry is also survived by one sister, Verajane (William) Fish. Preceding him in death are his parents and most recently his brother, William “Bill” O’Dell, whose wife, Judy, was loved as a sister. Cherishing precious memories are his seven grandchildren: Madison Nicole and Stephen Montgomery Manns, Mackenzie Grace and Zachary David Moir, and Foster Patterson, Mary Monroe, and Griffen Margaret O’Dell. The family wishes to express gratitude to Marshall Neurology, Marshall Psychiatrics, HIMG, and Hospice of Huntington. Visitation and a light reception are scheduled at Riverlawn Presbyterian Church 2008 Pennsylvania Ave. St. Albans 25177 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019. The family will honor Larry with a private graveside service conducted by Dr. Randy See of Union Missionary Baptist Church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
