CHARLES E. WARD, 84, formerly of Huntington, WV., passed away WEDNESDAY, May 10, 2006, in Woodbine Rehabilitation Center, Alexandria, VA. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 PM, Friday, May 12, 2006 at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born October 4, 1921 at Huntington, son of the late Robert Lee and Rhoda Alice Wilson Ward. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Mr. Ward was a retired purchasing agent with plant operations at Marshall Universityh. He swas a veteran of World War II in the US Army with the 1st Army, 7th Company Battery D, 438 AAA Anti-Aircraft Battalion, serving in the European Theatre arriving on Omaha Beach the day after D-Day. He had been a deacon at Highlawn Baptist Church, was an avid golfer and collected golf balls from courses he played. He was also an avid Marshall University sports fan and was working at Marshall at the time of the 1970 plane crash. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae King Ward, a daughter, Jane and her busband Donney Johnson. A son, Cfhris Ward and his wife Denise; and two grandchildren, Adam and Brandon Johnson.
