I thought of Dr. Cox today and decided to look him up. I realize his passing occurred many years ago at this point, but my condolences to his family and friends. I *loved* his history classes at Marshall. And I was unaware of his military service and his success in that area, but I’m not the least bit surprised. I very much enjoyed the time I spent with him.

On your headstone, it will be written, the date of your birth and the date of your death. Those dates have no importance. Between those dates, there is a small line, a dash, if you will. That dash defines who you are or were. That dash is what people will remember about you. Uncle Tony, you have touched many hundreds or perhaps thousands of people with that one small dash. You have inspired many and through those, you will continue to inspire. You have given many a foundation on which to build their legacy, fill their dash if you will. Why I remember, I don't know. Perhaps that is the message. When I was a very young child, Uncle Tony would return to my Grandparents house during summer breaks. He always had a new wiffle ball and bat for us. The material gift is not relavant. What I will forever remember is Uncle Tony out in my Grandparents yard with myself and my brother, playing ball. What I will always remember is the time and attention he gave me. I was part of his dash. Don't worry about the date of his passing. Always cherish the part of his dash that he gave to you.

Charles Cox (Tony) as I have always known him is my dear sweet cousin. HE used to practically live at our house when he was a young boy growing up. HE loved to go rabbit hunting or deer hunting in our woods with my brothers. He was one of the best people that I have ever met. HE will be missed and always will be loved.

I am the sister of Charles Cox. We call him Tony. He was a good and kind man. Everyones friend. I have many fond memories of Tony as children. I spent many hours with Tony after Janice died and was so sad for him. They were made for each other and I truly believe their kind of love is rare. I Loved and respected them both so very very much. Well meet again someday.

I was saddened to hear of Dr. Cox's passing. It is with very fond memories that I think of him.
I remember him walking across campus and in the lecture hall. I enjoyed him even before he was my professor. It was a treat to stand outside his room when he was on one of his typical rolls. He gave me some insite to Charlie Cox the man once when I asked him of the two accomplishments in his life he held the most dear SgtMajor or the title of Dr. He never hestitated in his reply, "SgtMajor it was much more difficult to acheive and brought more respect". As long as I have memory he shall be a part of my life.

Thank you all for the wonderful words. Uncle Tony (as we call him back home) will be missed very much, he meant so much to all of us. I will aways remimber the great stoies he would always tell us on his trips back home here in Indiana. He loved his job and all of his students very much.

Mr. Cox was a great inspiration to me. I have been teaching in Texas for over 20 yrs and have often thought of him. He was my advisor; I loved his classes. I hope I touch as many students as he has.

I am also very saddened by the loss of Mr. Cox. Twenty-six years ago, I met a History Teacher whom I will never forget! His flair and teaching style was so captivating. This energy carried over in his daily life.
He was a kind man and loved to talk with the students and staff. My father was a buildings and grounds supervisor at Marshall and always spoke highly of Mr. Cox.
He will be missed!

Dr. Cox made quite an impact on every student who entered his classroom. He was an amazing instructor. His personality was so strong and he loved "red". He gives me fond memories of my years at Marshall University. He is now with Janice, who was an amazing teacher herself. The impression they both made will forever affect the lives of many.
Sincere Condolences,

Prof. Cox was a terrific fellow. Hew was a great teacher and a wonderful mentor. His humor was quick and his insights we refreshing. I will always cherish the classes, tough they were, I had with him.
