Ruth Marie Flowers"Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away"(Matthew 5:42)

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another." (Ep 4:32)

These scriptures are the ones that reflect the essence of Ruth Marie's life of generosity and kindness.

Ruth Marie Roberts Flowers was a first and third generation American. She was born in Goose Creek (Baytown),Texas on August 31, 1927. Her dad was, Walter Roberts of Manchester, England and her mother, Matilda Carolyn Stuessy Roberts of Giddings, Texas. On a double date, she met her soul mate, Howard Dempsey Flower "Snuffy". She came to the dance with Wylie but she left with Snuffy. They were married a few months later and spent 54 years of marriage together.

Ruth was a faithful member of several churches.

She presently was a part of the Ruth Sunday School Class at Broaddus in which she had many dear friends. She attended the First Methodist Church of San Augustine when she first moved to this community and loved it as well. Her church of ministry would have been the First Methodist Church of Onalaska in which she served on various committees.

She was a long time member of the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star and served at many stations over her time of active service with the organization. She was a member of the Senior Citizens' Club of Onalaska and since her life's profession wasas a bookkeeper, she provided income tax services to the retired in the community each year. She was a member of the Scarlett O' Hatters Red Hat Club. The most unique club in which she belonged was the Bass N Gals of Livingston, Texas. Ruth was a charter member of this organization and fished many tournaments traveling all over the country side pulling a boat which she could in fact back up!

As her family, we learned how to play games and to show no quarter. She said to the smallest of her grandchildren, "I will teach you and then I will beat you". "Welcome to the real world" she was our "Momma", our "Aunt", our "Nanna", our "Nanna Ruth", our Nanna 2", a sister and a friend. We will miss her terribly but her legacy will live with us all forever because a character this colorful is not easily forgotten. She left us all with love and knowledge. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Dee Dee Capps and husband, Calvin I Capps of San Augustine. Her son, Robert Hank Flowers and his wife, Jolene Flowers of Grand Junction, Colorado. Grandchildren Dorrie Dee Lang and husband, Robert Lang of Atascoscita, Texas. Wesley Capps and wife, Jenny Capps of Lufkin, Texas. Shanon Downey of Irving, Texas. Our life celebration will be on Friday December 13,2013 at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church of Broaddus, 207 Buchanan Street. Pastor Dr. Wayne Barth will be officiating.
