1936 - 2009
 Marie R. McCallister, 72, of Culloden, took her heavenly flight to be with Jesus after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Hurricance. She was born November 6, 1936 in Andersonvile, Buckingham County, Virginia to Asa Menville and Nellie Blanche Wooten Rafferty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers, James, Charlie, Fred, Everett and Tommy Rafferty. Surviving are her husband, Russell "Dan" McCallister of Culloden, her children, Debbie (Bill) Gibson of Hurricane, Julie (David) Cremeans of Hurricane, Danny McCallister of Milton, WV, Carol (Edison) Hager of Charleston, WV, Richard (Sandra) McCallister of Hurricane and Melissa (Jim) Auxier of Thomasville, NC., along with seventeen grandchildren, Eric Richardson, Joey, Katie and Kayla Gibson, Alexandria and Courtney Cremeans, Jeremy, Christopher, Brandon and Anthony McCallister, Jonathan Wallace, Callie and Samuel Hager, Brenna Sutton, Garrett and Benjamin McCallister and Caleb Auxier and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Estelle Ripley of Lynchburg, VA, Junell Dryden of Richmond, VA and Joyce (Stewart) Crostic of Chesterfield, VA.; and a special family friend, Georgeanna Shirkey; and a whole host of friends and relatives. Marie took great pride in raising her 6 children. To all family and friends who knew and loved her, we appreciate your prayers during this time. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton with her son-in-law, Rev. Edison W. Hager and Rev. Mark Kilburn officiating. Burial will be in Culloden Cemetary, Culloden. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Joan C. Edwards Comprehensive Center, as well as the St. Mary's Cyberknife Center. Dr. Aneel Chowdhary, Dr. Philip Lepanto and Dr. Panos Ignatiadis and a special thank you to Dr. Christopher Skaggs of Putnam Care and Rehabilitation and all his staff, those who took especially good care of Marie. My sincerest, heartfelt condolences on your loss. Marie will be sadly missed; I loved her dearly as did many who had the extreme pleasure of knowing her. She was an incredible lady who was a very positive influence in my life, personally. I apologize for the tardiness of this message as I just found out. May God bless & comfort you during your time of mourning. Know that I share these feelings with you & your family during your time of grief.
