Gary I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my Daddy over 6 years ago. I didn't know that your Dad had passed until recently. I have been thru this if ever you need to talk I am here to listen. Brenda I am so sorry about Gary he was always kind to me. I will keep you in my prayers. Brandon honey I am sorry about your Papaw I love you and you are always in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda: I have neglected to write this for too long.... I just didn't know how ... you've been a friend for so many years and I just hate to see you hurt so much. Dear Brenda,
I'm so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. Though I've been there, I'll never say I know how you feel, I don't because we all feel things differently. I do know that it hurts almost unbearably and you wonder how you'll go on.I'll share a few things that have stuck with me. One friend simply said,"just breathe" I found myself forgetting to do even that, at time.When another friend was asked how she managed to survive she said, " I didn't want to, I just kept waking up every morning." I pray that you'll just keep waking up and continuing to breathe and eventually it will all become bearable. God Bless you and please call if ever you just need someone to cry with. You aren't alone in your grief.

Gary LaDon Elkins Sr. 64, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at St. Marys Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Winford Curry and Larry Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Culloden Cemetery. Gary served in the United States Army and spent most of his time in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139 who will be conducting military graveside rights. Gary was a co-owner of D & E Stone. He was the former founder and owner of G & A Stone. He was born July 16, 1946 in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of the late Lawson Clark Elkins Sr. and Frances Onedia Keenan Elkins. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Elkins. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Brenda Sue Maddox Elkins; one son Gary Elkins Jr. and his wife Patricia; one daughter, Amy Brenenstall and her husband Chris; two grandchildren that was the light of his life, Brandon Elkins and Emily Elkins; a very special nephew with whom he shared his home, Jeremiah Maddox; five sisters, Linda Elkins, Leafy Elkins, Sharon Sifrit, Shirley Wagner and Lila Bledsoe; and four brothers, Clark, Clovis, Albert and Harry Elkins. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
