1929 - 2011
 Carter J. Smith, 82, of Milton, W.Va. left this world on June 25, 2011 after a short illness. He was born January 3, 1929, in Cabell County, a son of the late Carter J. and Rosie Edmunds Smith. Carter was a butcher by trade. He was a retired disabled veteran of the United States Army. He served his country from 1951 to 1955. He received the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, National Defense Medal. He owned and operated C & W Food Market on Dry Ridge Road for thirty years until the day of his death. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death his brothers, Darrell, Ellis, Henry, Wilson, Roy and Mark Smith; sisters, Wanda Smith and Vivian Peyton and three granddaughters, Stacey, Cari and Jodi. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Wanda Glover Smith; three sons, David and his wife Carol, Joe, Robert Smith; three daughters, Carla Blake and her husband Bob, Wendy Darling and her husband Russ and Christie Edmunds and her husband Ramey; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Smith and Don Smith; three sisters, Alma Chapman, Velma Auffant and Mary Clagg Hurt. He will be missed by many customers, family and friends of his neighborhood. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Mark Hesson officiating. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Wanda and family, So very sorry to hear of Carters passing. Growing up and even now as an adult we shopped at the store on the ridge. RIP Carter we will miss you! You all will be in my thoughts and prayers!

So very sorry to hear of Carter's passing. I have a lot of great memories of hanging around the store shooting basketball and pool when I was a teenager. I'll never forget them. Thank you for the memories. My condolences go out to the family.
