I was saddened to hear of Coach Allen's passing. I played football at Huntington East '61,'62 and '63 when he was my assistant coach. He was my head baseball coach during that time also and those experiences were some of the best of my life. They were not always easy but I enjoyed them immensely. Coach Allen was a great part of that time for me. Although I had not been in contact for some time, occasionally I might see him at an athletic event. I have also been a coach since I graduated from Marshall and have been the head football coach at Poca High for 22 years. I can't tell you how many times I have thought about Coach Allen and how many stories I've told (all good) to my players about him and Coach Clark. He was a big reason I became a coach. Again, I am very sorry and my family and I extend sincere condolences to the Allen family. Bob Lemley

Jimmy, Your father was a good man, one that you can and should be proud of. His whole life agenda placed the well-being of kids ahead of everything else. I always had the greatest of respect for him and I pay him what I consider to be the greatest of compliments, "COACH, Thanks for taking the time".....! Sorry that I cannot be there tonite but my son is heading back to Camp Lejune and my time needs to be with him.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Dink and his wife rented a small house to us on Monel Avenue. They were considerate landlords and fine people. We made some improvements on the property that pleased them and they offered to sell the house to us shortly before we moved to Alabama. Dink was a rare landlord who refunded part of the monthly rental for the month we departed - a kind gesture that was not required and reflected the goodness of the man.
We remember him in that light.

I would like to share my sympathy in the passing of a great man and coach. I played for the Pirates and Coach Allen from 1965-1967,but what I learned from him provided myself with being a much stronger willed person. Especially, during Vietnam, and in Law Enforcement, now I am retired in NC. He'll never be forgotten, and always remembered as a man of strength and true will. May God Bless. Mike

My condolences to the family. I'm not sure if you will ever grasp the long reaching arms of a great educator, nor the lives that he touched. Some of my fondest high school memories are of Dink Allen. This is a man who exemplifies a true respectful man. God received a gem. I'm grateful to have had him as part of my childhood. I hope that his family can take comfort in the legacy that this great man left all of us who knew him.

I just wanted to say I am very sorry and that I truly have wonderful memories of Dink teasing me when I worked at Barboursville High School. He kept reminding me that he knew me when I was "two". And as always he would say it at the most embarrassing times. Your family will always have the memories of a very well-loved man. God Bless you All.
