1933 - 2012
Vernon Lewis Craddock, 78, of Barboursville, WV, passed away peacefully and comfortably on Monday, January 16, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House following a brief illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville conducted by Minister George Erwin and Minister Doug Minton and eulogy by Pastor Larry Arbogast and Lay Speaker Denver Stevens. Entombment will be at Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV. He is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years, Jane (Stowers) Craddock; step-son, Christopher Lane and Jessica and loving grandson Elijah, Huntington, WV; one sister Claudia Craddock Lawrence of Dayton, OH; niece, Mary Ann (Jack) Baylor of Nashville, TN; nephew Joe Vernon (Deanne) Lawrence of Cincinnati, OH. He was born April 28, 1933, a son of the late Claude and Leona Christian Craddock of Huntington, WV. Vernon was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and was active member of the 320th Squadron and 90th SRW attending yearly Air Force reunions. He was also member of the Main Street Church of Christ, Hurricane, WV. During his lifetime he was entrepreneur of multiple businesses, including but not limited to, Craddock Department Store and shoe stores, and V&S Distributing wholesale jewelry business. In the 60's he served as meat manager traveling the tri-state area for Evans Supermarkets. In addition, he was owner, developer and builder of Linmont properties, homes, townhouses, and apartments. Vernon served several years as Board Member to the Tri-State Homebuilder's Association. His pride and joy was the building and construction of the Linmont Bridge crossing Mud River from Route 60 into Linmont Estates in the early '70s along with his good friend, David Allen Edmunds. Vernon was an avid NASCAR fan of many years attending races and events across and the country with his special cousin and loving friend, Jim Craddock. Jim and his family have always "been there" for Vernon in time of need. He leaves behind a very close and personal "Rusty Wallace" fan, Pam Cremeans with whom he visited daily and a very, very special friend and helper, David Andrew Edmunds and his family. Vernon enjoyed feeding the deer and birds in his back yard and walking and driving his good buddy/dog, Lucky. He loved traveling to Wizard of Oz events throughout the country and became personal friends with several of the original Munchkins in the 1939 movie. Vernon was very active and every morning met and had coffee with his good friends and buddies at Hardee's while they discussed and resolved the world's and community issues and problems. Vernon was loved and honored by many people of many occupations and nationalities including Dr. Meheiar El-Hamdani and wife Dr. Nesreen Benhammed referring to them as his step-son and daughter, along with their four children. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday, January 20, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Memory of Vernon L. Craddock
I just learned Vernon's death. I and my entire are deepl,y express our sincere sympathy to Mr. Vernon Craddock. May family got there at West Verginia in year of 1976, we were there for only a short times, had chance to acquainted with Vernon's family; Sarrah and Vernon thru United Methodist Church in Barsville, WV. We arrived in United States of America from Korea with a great expectation of variety opportunity for us in the future. The reason we came to WV was that Major James Jones who was one of my dearest fried who got killed in airplain crash on his test flight at his military compound. I worked for him while he was stationed in Korea I was Flight operation offer for the Aviation Co. there in Korea. Originally our plan for him and I was he was going to retired from Army and we were both going to some kind of business but all sudden his death, I was left behind alone as an orphan. I did not have anyone I can depend on, I did not know any one else except Jones family. Major Jones himself response our financially till we settled down in United States. I decided to go to the California for finding a job Aviation related job and we arrived Sacramento in year 1977. I want go back a little more story about Mr. Vernon Craddock, while we were there. The weather was terribly cold, windy, with several inches of snow on the ground, at the time we were living 2 bedroom/1 bath 2 story home which was owned by James Jones. It was nothing compare what we had in back of Korea. We had a total of 5 family. One of unforgettable our memory is that Christmas party at Church, they gave a lot of gift including bicyle for my kits and we are invited to Vernon's home, the dishes they had prepared was one of best meal we ever had our in life, warm hospitality Christmas.
If anyone in United Methodist Church in Barboursville, WV. still remembering us, certainly we would like to convey our thanks for given us love while we were there.
Vernon and Sarrah were very helpful, spent many67 pleasant hours with us and offered us many recreation facility to us to enjoined. Pastor John Mason was the pastor for the church.

Mr. Craddock will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who helped me in the time of need. I transferred with my job to WV from Ohio in 1988 and was searching for a new home in a safe area. As a single 24 year old African American, I was very concerned about my living arrangements. Somehow, I was led to LinMont Estates. I still remember telling Mr. Craddock I was having trouble finding a new home and was running out of time on my relocation package. Mr. Craddock proclaimed, "I will build you a house!" I was always happy living in LinMont Estates until I transferred to Texas in 1997. My deepest sympathy to the Craddock Family.

Janie,
I talked with Vernon just 3 times. One time briefly meeting him, and then 2 other times at HSCC whiie there for the Thanksgiving Dinner. Each of the last 2 times we talked 20 minutes and it was easy for me to see he was so well loved. We had a great time just chatting about life, work, and family and it seemed like he was my friend right off the bat. My heart and prayers go out to you in your loss.

Jane,
Vernon was the epitome of a true American Patriot, and I will always remember how dedicated, and supportive he was to the 90TH Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. As you know he and I often had those early morning walks and coffee together at the reunion sites, and those times are etched into my memory. I shall miss him, very much.

My deepest sympathy to all of Vernon's family members. I know he will be missed greatly. I never got the chance to meet Vernon face to face, but over the last 10 years we spoke by phone many, many times for business purposes, and on those calls I got the pleasure to learn a great deal about Vernon and his life, both past and present. I know he enjoyed his time here on earth to the fullest, and loved every day with his family , friends, animals, and anyone else he came in contact with. He seemed to be a man that everyone was glad to call friend.
I will miss those conversations, and may he rest in peace forever and ever.
