John and David, I was just a little girl when you came to the Adkins house on Lee St. I fondly remember your dad and mother (9th grade science!). I consider your dad and many others as those who provided me with the base of my faith. I live in WA state and your mother used to tell me to wave as I flew over Yakima! Ruth Ellen (Adkins) Flint

I would like to express condolences from the May family formerly of Barboursville. I had the late Mrs. Catherine Astle for earth science. I really looked up to the Astle sons while growing up, though not formerly knowing them. I graduated from BHS in 1974. My grandfather Charles operated a Barber shop and my father a dry cleaners in downtown B'ville back in the 1950's. Charlie Astle will be missed, he and his entire family were positive role models for me in my formative years.

David & John (Sorry Senator, David gets top billing since we're the same age)Had a chance to thank your parents for helping make B'ville the greatest little town to grow up in and your dad was quick to respond that it still is! I also thanked them for being good sports after the zillion garage windows we broke playing basketball. Union avenue will never be the same but it will NEVER be forgotten. God Bless

John and David, Sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I remember him and your mother very well from my days growing up when I was a kid in Barboursville, WV. I also remember getting a ride to Marshall University with you and your dad many mornings in your family's VW beetle. Being a poor college student, I couldn't afford my own car and greatly appreciated the free rides. Both of your parents were very nice and I remember them well to this day. My condolences, Charlie Riffe Leesburg, FL
