1931 - 2012
 Ira Leonard Beckett, Jr., 80 of Ona, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, January 26, 2012 at St. Marys Medical Center. He was born December 17, 1931 in Ona, WV to the late Ira Leonard and Ruth Carter Beckett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dallas, Riley, Michael, Dale and his sister, Yvonne. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Matilda Tillie Wagoner Beckett and his sister, Eloise Beckett Hatfield, his sons, Marty (Lee Ann Grass) Beckett of Ona, Timothy (Shelli Doddridge) Beckett of Milton, and John (Lisa Lambert) Beckett of Ona; six grandchildren, Zachary Beckett, Heather Beckett Wallace, Trey Beckett, Tanner Beckett, Savannah Beckett and Sawyer Beckett; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Wallace and Beckett Wallace. Ira served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U. S.S. Siboney, and was a retired employee of Union Carbide after 30 years of service and worked for Midwest Institute for nine years. Ira was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Ona and a member of Gideons International. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always present at every sporting and academic event his grandchildren were involved in. He was loved by all who knew him. He leaves behind nephews, nieces, loved ones and many, many friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, by Pastor Bill Davis and Pastor Don Weeks. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Zachary Beckett, Trey Beckett, Tanner Beckett, Sawyer Beckett, Jon Wallace, Eric Pyles, Drew Pyles and Chad Pyles. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace. |
