
Lawton H. Shepard, of Huntington, passed into eternal peace on Monday, Jan 23rd, after a brief illness. He was the last member of his generation, being predeceased by his father and mother, Levi and Theodocia McClellan Shepard of Branchland; his dear sisters, Edith Walker, Wanda Adkins and Lelia McCoy; brothers Leo Shepard, Aubry Lee Shepard and Arley McCoy; his daughter, Lana; and a grandson, Keith Jacks. He is survived by sons Arley (Rebecca) and Larry (Tracy) of Huntington, and daughter Lelia Armstrong (Jim) of Tinton Falls, NJ; 12 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. Lawton applied an exemplary work ethic at Perry Norvell Shoe Co., retiring in 1973. He lived simply and loved deeply. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with deployments to Australia, New Guinea, Netherlands, East Indies, Philippines and Japan. He had a wide range of interests, hobbies and activities during his lifetime. Gardening, music, tinkering and inventing gadgets were a regular part of his routine until the aging process slowed him. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
