I am so sorry for his passing. He and I became cousins when I would go to the library for research and told him of our family. He was such a wonderful person and always took care of his mother. I just sent him a happy birthday on Facebook, and moments later learn of his passing. I am deeply saddened. He was a wonderful person and loved history and genealogy and nature like I do.

Uncle Elwin was an amazing person with a heart of gold. When I was younger, my parents would take my siblings and me on our vacations to West Virginia. Uncle Elwin and Grandpa (Uncle Elwins Dad) took us on our first and subsequent fishing trips. Grandma would cook and bake amazing food and desserts. The house always smelled so nice. We used to go to carnivals and shopping with them. We had so much fun. As kids, we always looked forward to visiting them and them visiting us in New York. They were so genuine and loving. Uncle Elwin and his parents were just so very important to us. When Uncle Elwin died and I cried, my young son said that he had never seen me cry before. I told him Uncle Elwin was a very special person and showed my son pictures of him on the internet at Cabell County Library, where he worked. I only wished my son and husband could have met Uncle Elwin and that my son could have gone fishing with him. I enjoyed those times and will never forget it. He treated my parents like his own family, when they came to Calvary College as immigrants in 1969/1970. He just opened his heart and home, without a second thought, to people who he only knew to be Christians coming from another country. That to me is just so incredible. I am honored to have known him and grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth.
He was loved very much by my family and we will miss him dearly. Uncle Elwin, we will meet again one day. So its not goodbye, but my hope is that I will see you again in our Fathers house in Heaven.

Elwin was the first person I met when I came to the United States to attend Calvary College in 1969. I was alone and he took me under his wing and treated me like a brother. He was my best friend and roommate. On vacations, while in college when I had nowhere to go, he had me go home with him where his parents treated me like a son. Elwin and his family were my family here. When my wife Thankamma came to the United States in March 1970, Elwin and his family treated my wife as their own as well. My children, Sherly, Shine, Elwin and Lorraine loved Elwin very much. In fact, they called him Uncle Elwin and his parents Grandma and Grandpa. We kept in contact and visited each over the years. He was so close to our hearts that my wife and I named our only son after him. His memory will live on in our hearts. We will miss him greatly. His kind-hearted nature and love for everyone and everything will be forever remembered. We love you Elwin.

I met Elwin at the Library. My sister Erica used to work there. Elwin would always tell her about good places to eat that he found on his fishing trips!

I want to extend condolences to Elwin's family and friends. Elwin was such an influence to those of us that attended Calvary College. I was able to sing with him in a quartet we had there at Calvary and in the choir. This is such a shock to us. We are remembering the family in our prayers.
