1934 - 2012
George Spurlock, Jr., 77, of Glenwood, WV, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 27, 2012. He was born November 27, 1934, in Lesage, WV, a son of the late George Spurlock Sr. and Alfie Stowasser Spurlock. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Eleanor Merritt, Eloise Spurlock, Imogene Faye Bailey, Bessie Irene Bailey, Maxine Greathouse, and one brother, Henry Spurlock. He was a member of Sunrise United Methodist Church, which he attended all his life. He worked at Ravenswood Aluminum where he retired in 1991. He celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary, and he was a farmer at heart all his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Fay Greathouse Spurlock; daughter, Vonda Sue Freeland; one sister, Ethel Spurlock Hesson of Glenwood and one brother, Roger Spurlock of Lesage; brothers-in-law and wife, Rufus and Landora Greathouse and Dallas Greathouse; several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors; special friends, Harvey and Norma Lee Mount and Jim and Barbara Walter; and his special pets, Ringo and Buddy. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, and after 12:00 Thursday at the church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Sunrise United Methodist Church, Glenwood, by Pastor Henry Clay. Burial will follow in Spurlock Creek Cemetery, Glenwood.
