Coach Bowden taught me a lot about respect, self-confidence, hard work, how to listen, the sprit of competition but that winning is not everything. He was a man of great convictions and knew how to handle pride. Unfortunately I did not stay in touch with him but often always had memories of him pop into mind - that will never end. I'm proud to say I was one of his "knuckle-heads." Peace Lonnie B.

Sorry to read of Mr. Bowden's passing...He was my 6th grade teacher at Hite Saunders Elementary. One of, if not my favorite teachers of all. I am now 60 yrs old but remember him well. Never saw him after that year but never forgot him and his unique ways. He busted my butt, every time I needed it. Told us great stories, like the one from his first date with his wife...I'll never forget it. I still have a great picture of him in our group class picture from 1964. In all my 12 yrs of school, I can honestly say that was the only year I enjoyed...His family was no doubt, blessed to have him. Rest in Peace, Mr. Bowden.

I would like to pass along my condolences to the family of Mr. Bowden. Coach to those of us on his 6th grade basketball team at Hite Saunders Elementary in the 63-64 school year. I remember him singing in a gospel guartet and not being ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I would later take a class with Coach at Tri-State Bible college in the mid 70's. I know he loved the Lord. I know he loved his family. One of my role models in life. Man he sure could yell at us in BB practice.... We didn't mind. May God Bless this Family

My sincere condolences to Coach Bowden's family. I played football for him at West Jr. High in 1974, 1975 and 1976. I have never forgotten him and the influence he had on me as a young man. I know he will be missed by all the young men who he coached amd mentored at West Jr.
May God Bless and comfort the family. Heaven has another coach on it's team!!!

Shawn,
Just a quick note that my memories of talking to your father at the football fields are fond ones. He wasn't a loud/boisterous "sideline" dad, and he was always friendly to all of us "young'uns". I lost my mom in 2006; I'll be thinking of you and your family.
