To Debbie, Marsha, Shade and the Extended Childress Family: I wish to convey my deepest sympathy. I remember Mrs. Childress very well. She had such a wonderfully giving and spirited personality. She is now in a better place and is no doubt at last reunited with Big C. and Little C. At a time where there is both mourning and celebration of a life well lived, may you take comfort in knowing you have the love and support of your friends.

With deep sadness we would like to express our sincerest sympathy to you, Debbie, and your family. Your mother was like a second mother to us both and we will miss her presence in our lives. She was a neighborhood icon for many years and one very special lady! So glad we got to see her one last time before she traveled on home. May God give you comfort and peace at this time of grieving, and hold you close in the palm of His hand.

Marsha and Debbie, Mary File texted me this afternoon that your mom's obituary was in today's paper. I think you both know my affection for her and for that reason I tried to come to the funeral. After 2 and a half hours of delay, the flight was cancelled and that was my only shot at making B'ville before the funeral. You know I visited her at Wingate on my last visit to B'ville and while I was trying to talk the nurse into telling me which room she was in she noticed me from the lounge and called out to me. Even with her obvious issues, she knew me and we talked about the kids and grandkids and even John's family. I interpreted that as we were important enough to her that she could still remember us. The feeling was definitely mutual. I will always remember her as one of my adopted moms.
