I pray that God will Bless your family, I know them not but very much look forward to being a brother in our Heavenly family together. I truely believe that God will bring us all together and never to be apart again. I will miss our friendship and never forget the things I learned as a young man at Foodland, the first job I had and the wonderful person that John was to the fellow employees.

Your family has been in my prayers. Though I didn't know "Big John" personally, I know Brian, and he spoke of him often. I could always hear pride, love, and respect in every story that he told me of him. He sounded like the person, we should all aspire to be.

John "Big John" Shirkey, 68, of Culloden passed from this life on January 29, 2014. John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edith (Woodard) Shirkey and sister, Mary Shirkey. John left behind the love of his life, best friend, and wife, Donetta Shirkey, two sons, Brent (Suzanne), of Barboursville, and Brian (Angi), of Richmond, VA, six adored grandchildren, Kerrington, Riley, Bryson, Jake, Hunter, and Bentley, brothers, George, Charles, Frank, David, and Bud, and sisters, Carolynn Mywhrould, Sharon Clagg, Nancy Meadows, Dottie Arbaugh, and Flossie Adkins, along with a host of family and friends. John was an employee for 25 years at the Piggly Wiggly in Milton as the Stock/Inventory Manager. John attended First Baptist Church of Hurricane. John especially loved spending his time at ball fields watching his grandchildren, as well as hunting with family and friends. In his passing, John gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, with memorial services to follow at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saint Jude's and becoming an organ donor.
