 John Newton Townsend, 70, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 in Hospice Care at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Gary Shepard. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born May 17, 1943 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Harley and Mabel Varner Townsend. He was a small engine mechanic and was a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church, and a member of The Thundertones Barbershop Chorus and WV Fun Flyers. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Sommerville Townsend; one son, Douglas B. Townsend and his wife Shellye of Huntington; and one brother, Todd V. Townsend, and his wife, Nancie of Fremont, California. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
