1935 - 2016
William "Bill" Dolen, 80 of Ashland, K.Y gained his wings, Tuesday, May 31, 2016, surrounded by family at Community Hospice House. He was born July 9, 1935, in Huntington, W.V., son of the late Leonard Basil and Mary E. Nida Dolen. He was a humble, hardworking man, self-employed as a carpenter and general contractor before his retirement. However, he considered his greatest vocation being a Dad and Pappaw to his adoring son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Dolen was a member of Park Circle FWB church where he was a former Deacon and attended many years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, cheating Mammaw at Rummy and Christy at Watermelon Eating contests. A devoted husband of 57 years to his surviving wife Carolyn, she cared for him faithfully and they were rarely apart. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dolen was preceded in death by four sisters Ida Mae Jeffers, Sarah Terry, Mary Crabtree, Hazel Hutchinson, and five brothers John, Harold, Burt, Leonard, and Pete Dolen. Besides his surviving wife Carolyn, he will be missed dearly by his son, Billy Joe Dolen, and granddaughters and their husbands, Stacy and Josh Saunders, Kelly and Billy Stevens, Christy and Tim Morgan, their mother Jamie Dolen Pennington, and grandson Josh Riggs. Adoring great-grandchildren will also remember him fondly, Lily Saunders, Jaycee and Marley Stevens, Aspen Morgan, Diesel, Jorja, and Ascher Riggs. Surviving sisters and brothers who were so close to his heart, Lois Meade, Ethel Burth, and Sammy and David Dolen. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, W.V. Burial will follow at the Dolen Family Cemetery. A special meal will be held following the services at the Barboursville Community Center honoring Mr. Dolen with his favorite meal of biscuits, gravy, and all the fixings. We know that he would want everyone to be reminded as they remember him to "be still" and that "the main thing is not to get excited." Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Aunt Carolyn and Joey,
Love you and you are in my prayers. We are traveling so I will not make it to the funeral. However, Praise God Uncle Bill is seeing all his other loved ones and we will spend eternity catching up!
