1930 - 2018

Dolores Schmidt BergerDolores (Schmidt) Berger of Barboursville, WV, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2018. She was born October 9, 1930 in Mankato, MN. She is the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Schmidt. Dolores graduated from the Good Counsel Academy in Mankato and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone while there. She also served as a teacher’s aide in the Cabell County School System. Dolores has been a faithful member of the Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church since 1963. Since that time she and her family have participated in several evolutions and growth of the church. Along with structural growth, she offered her sewing and knitting talents as a member of the Serving Hands Fellowship group where she passionately made an immeasurable number of Moisture Barrier Mats along with scarves and hats for the homeless, and created an abundance of knitted dolls for children in need. Dolores was preceded in death by an infant son, her first husband John Rode of MN, her second husband John Berger of WV, and her brothers Robert and Charles Schmidt of MN. She is survived by two special sisters who she enjoyed corresponding and visiting with when time and circumstance allowed, Lorraine Augustyn of NE, and Evelyn Holloway of WA; her daughters: Nancy Dawson and Patricia Turman, (along with her favorite son-in-law of all time, Tom Turman) of Barboursville, Diane Huckabee of Lake Village, AR, and Karen Lewis of Dellroy, OH. Dolores has six grandchildren: Jeremy Lewis, Danny Lewis, Ronnie Woody, Brandon West, William Turman and Olivia Turman. Dolores also has been blessed with several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, WV on Sunday January 21, 2018 from 5 – 7 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be conducted at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Monday January 22, 2018 at 10 am. Burial will be at Woodmere Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Catholic Charities of WV.
