Edward "Obbie" Gibson Smith, Jr. Click for Condolences      Printable Version 1935 - 2018 Edward “Obbie” Gibson Smith, Jr., 82, of Barboursville, W.Va., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 22, 2018. He was born on July 16, 1935 in Barboursville, W.Va., a son of the late Edward and Alyce Thompson Smith. Obbie will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Leandra “Cotton” Smith; one son, Michael Stephen Smith; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristi Smith Adkins (Ronnie); four grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Emily Smith, Matthew Adkins and Ruby Adkins; one great-grandchild, Lucia Smith; one brother, Michael Sands Smith (Millie); two nieces and two nephews; and his life long best friend, Bill Call. Obbie will be remembered for his quick, sarcastic, funny sense of humor. He was the rock of his family and is loved so much. He will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville with Pastor Evan Arkell officiating. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Friends may visit from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Obbie was a college friend who was devoted to Cotton and his friends. Although I did not see him often, my thoughts and memories were good. To Cotton and the entire family, I send my prayers and condolences.
